This weekend on WAM, Angela Antle celebrates Hockey Day in Canada with singer David Francey, who's taken a fancy to hockey. Do you think you can dance? Then Neighbourhood Dance Works wants to see you as it celebrates its 20th anniversary with a YouTube contest! There are other ways to help them celebrate, you'll hear all about it. Ron Pumphrey launches the third volume of his memoir trilogy, The Events Leading Up To My Death; he's a WAM guest for gab about that. Tara Manuel and Michael Rigler have instituted a new theatre company, but not just any theatre company, a shadow puppet theatre company; WAM casts some light on that. February fast approaches and The Scope once again offers the RPM Challenge–record 10 songs in the 28 days and then release the product–editor Elling Lien fills in the blanks. The National Film Board has two tasty projects meant to instruct and inform filmmakers–one is a call for Newfoundland and Larador short subjects, the other is a call for emerging animators. Special guest on Liner Notes is Joe Belly with his new CD, Nickles and Dimes. . Weekend Arts Magazine airs on Saturday and Sunday mornings beginning at 6 a.m., 5:30 a.m. in Labrador. http://www.cbc.ca/wam/

Water Street Book Club with guest Lisa Moore: The first of a new regular series of informal literary discussions begun by Historic Sites Association will be held on March 4 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gallery Space, Heritage Shop of Newfoundland and Labrador, 309 Water Street. Guest writer Lisa Moore will discuss the process of writing her most recent book, February, followed by a reading. There will be a question period. Tea and coffee will be available.

Eastern Edge Gallery's "Silver Lining" fundraising campaign: Eastern Edge Gallery, a not-for-profit art organization, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2009–silver! Through the years, Eastern Edge has succeeded in gaining a strong reputation as a vital part of the artistic scene. Its continuous growth is accomplished by hard work and dedication from staff, volunteers and supporters. They are asking you to help today by making a donation to Eastern Edge Gallery.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada opens EI benefits to the self-employed: Self-employed Canadians will be able to voluntarily opt into the EI program effective January 31 in order to take advantage of the EI special benefits. http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sc/ei/self_employed_workers.shtml

Nova Scotia's 1st storytelling blog is now online: Storytelling Nova Scotia is a recently launched site where you will find listings of groups presenting storytelling in Nova Scotia and information about storytelling events, festivals, concerts and gatherings. http://storytellingnovascotia.blogspot.com/.

New edition of Professional Editorial Standards: The Editor's Association of Canada announces the release of a new edition of its pivotal publication on editing in the English language, Professional Editorial Standards. Last revised in 1999, the new Professional Editorial Standards has been updated thoroughly to reflect changes in technology and the skills and knowledge required by editors today.
